Welcome to research data from the Tromsø Study

On these web pages you can get access to results from the research data base from the Tromsø Study surveys (Tromsø 1-7) conducted in 1974, 1979/80, 1986/87, 1994/95, 2001/02, 2007/08 and 2015/16. Not all results from the extensive investigations in subgroups of the population are included.

Data presented on these pages are based on the original data from questionnaires, various measurements and clinical examinations. The data have been through an extensive quality check. Nevertheless, some of the registered measurements values are biologically improbable and logical inconsistencies exist in answers to the questionnaires. In cases where it has been impossible to obtain the correct values, values are presented as originally registered.

How to get access to the data

Use the list on the left side of the screen. For each dataset you will find a list of variables and some main results (like frequency counts and mean values) by clicking on the - icons and select [Description of variables].

The presentation of the data is based on the NESSTAR program system.
